Background and Introduction to DokuWiki

The following links provide information about wikis in general and Judylab wiki in particular. If you do not find what you are looking for, please add it to the suggestion box.

  • DokuWiki Syntax - explains how to make things bold, itallics, etc., ...
  • DokuWiki Manual - explains the inner workings of the wiki software we are using <DokuWiki>
  • namespaces Please read this for information on security and organization for this wiki.
  • Local plugins Additional wiki formatting syntax. Includes information on displaying videos
  • Templates Pages on a per namespace basis which are used when first creating a namespace
  • Extra Symbols Describes how to put extra symbols (like foreign letters, copyright symbols, etc) onto a wiki page
  • Tables and text formatting can be tedious in any wiki. You can compose simple pages using Microsoft Word and it’s Normal template and then convert them to Dokuwiki format by using the Word2DokuWiki macro code found here.
  • Wiki Logo The logo in the upper left hand corner of every page can be changed by uploading logo.png, logo.gif, or logo.jpg to :wiki

How to Upload and Link to Files

  1. Use secure ftp to connect to ftp.judylab.org
  2. cd to /Wiki_Uploads
  3. Locate directory to store files
    • Note: there are two directory trees in which wiki content is stored. One is for wiki documents and the other is for everything else that we upload via ftp or the built-in wiki-upload button. The file structures of each directory tree are intentionally the same (i.e., same folder names, etc.) and this should be continued if and when you feel necessary to create mote folders.
  4. IMPORTANT: The names of all uploaded files must follow this naming convention
    • no capital letters
    • no spaces (use the “_” underscore character instead)
    • avoid use of symbols and characters other than: “a”-”z”, “0”-”9”, “_”, “-”
    • file permissions should not need to be manipulated (default works great)
    • instead of using pairs of square bracktes (”[”) to enclose a link, use pairs of curley brackets (”{”) to define a link to this other directory tree for uploaded files
