Wiki: What to Do and What NOT to Do
What to Do
- follow the templates if they exist
- subscribe to your pages so you can be updated about changes
- make equations using the LaTex plug in
- when uploading files do the following:
- click the “upload file” on the left
- click to the namespace you want to put the files in
- note the naming convention of this namespace
- then select the file
- hit upload
- name rename the file to conform to the naming convention
- if the sub-namespace you want to put the uploaded file in does not exists, simply name the file as “:SUBNAMESPACE:FILE.SUFFIX”.
- presently the uploaded files are limited to 20 MB (this can be increased if we think it should be)
- to delete a file or start over, select all the text, delete it, and save a blank file and start over by creating the page again
- ALWAYS give alternate text for all links after a “|” (e.g., do this “:research:cool_project|Cool Project” instead of “:research:cool_project”
What NOT to Do
- do not attempt to markup headings oir make them into links
- do not deviate from template without suggesting an alteration/enhancement first
- do not click the “create this page” text that is in itallics on the far right below the login/logout links
- do not make links like this [ [ Page Name ] ], instead do it this way: [ [ Page Name|Page Name ] ]
- do not make equations by uploading images
- do not forgot to start all links with a colon to insure correct addressing, thus do [ [ : research : cryomems ] ] instead of [ [ reserach : cryomems ] ]
- do not use spaces in the link address (i.e., " : research : cryomems " should be “:research:cryomems”
- do not make half-ass wiki pages just to make the link appear good, wait till you have enough time to make a decent page before you create it
